Former Aussie Captain Allan Border has stated that Cricket Australia should ask BCCI to send their players to participate in the Big bash League , an IPL style T20 league in Australia.
India has a majority of T20 specialists in the world and Border feels that they would bring more zing to BBL.
Border wrote“The Big Bash League is a fabulous product, but it would be great to see a sprinkling of Indian players in the competition. While I am a big fan of the Big Bash in its current format, having some Indians and a few more international players from other countries would really lift it to the next level. No Big Bash franchise has ever signed an Indian player because the Indian Board is extremely protective of the Indian Premier League,”
BCCI has not allowed its players to participate in any tournaments organised by other cricket boards. Indian players fear that their place in the board's roster would vanish if they don't play Domestic cricket in India.BCCI has defended itself in the past by saying that allowing players to play in foreign leagues will diminish Indian domestic cricket and its circuit.
This protective approach by BCCI has backfired . The domestic cricket in India has not improved in any way except for the TV coverage by Star Sports. If Indian players are allowed to play in Foreign leagues , then they will learn how to play in difficult conditions around the world. The same thing happened in case of the Aussies , who now play very well in India , thanks to IPL .This would improve India's overseas performance which has been dismal for the past few years and Indian players will develop a fan base all over the world just like AB de villiers and Glenn Maxwell have in India.
Border also said “Maybe it is time for Cricket Australia to go to work behind the scenes and see if there can be some deal done to get a few Indians in the Big Bash. That would certainly help the status of the competition and also encourage more overseas players to be a part of it,”
BCCI should discuss the terms in providing the Non-objection Certificates to the players and learn what's necessity and what's stupidity.
